Toyota EV concept confirmed for Detroit 2009

Toyota has (succinctly) announced that it will unveil a new battery-electric concept car at the Detroit motor show in January 2009. And that’s it – alongside a solitary teaser photo that’s all we’re getting out of the Japanese automotive giant for now. But a source inside Toyota GB confirmed to CAR that this concept is not the new Prius, and that the production version of the infamous petrol-electric hybrid will debut alongside this EV concept.

We still think it’s daft – Infiniti pouring money in to Red Bull F1 sponsorship – but if that’s what The PR powers that be at Infiniti want to spend their marketing budget on, they should get some payback from Red Bull. Which is why we’re being treated to the Infiniti FX50 by Sebastian Vettel. Or whatever moniker Infiniti decide to attach to this Limited Edition.

Volkswagen will show off the new Scirocco and a Golf TDI Hybrid concept at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show next week. The Scirocco will come with four engines, in TDI and TSI forms, ranging from a 1.4 TSI (120bhp) to a 2.0T (197bhp). Adaptive chassis control will also be available, and prices are expected to be slightly more than the equivalent three-door Golf.
